Sometimes, a relationship doesn’t have all the elements to last long-term.
In Elijah Blake’s new single, “Sugarwater & Lime,” the singer and songwriter further explores this bittersweet instance, comparing it to not having all the key ingredients.
“Baby, we can’t make lemonade / From sugarwater and lime / But we tried,” he croons over a brassy backdrop.
Speaking on “Sugarwater & Lime,” Blake tells Rated R&B, “Every time I try to explain how I feel but can’t find the words, I often reference an analogy, and that’s the heart of this song. It talks about entering a relationship without having the ingredients to fulfill each other’s pallets completely.”
He continues, “In hindsight, the only way I can describe past heartbreak is like trying to squeeze lemon juice out of lime. You can get close to the taste, but it’ll never be so.”
Blake produced the self-penned track with Jon Jon Traxx. “Sugarwater & Lime” is the follow-up to “Ghostbuster.”
“With ‘Ghostbuster,’ I wanted to create a sonic and visual journey that transcends boundaries, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in a hauntingly beautiful experience,” Blake explained. “It’s a blend of my musical roots with a modern twist, and I’m thrilled to share this artistic expression with the world.”
“Ghostbuster” and “Sugarwater & Lime” will appear on Blake’s upcoming album, elijah, set to release this summer on MNRK Records.
Elijah will mark his first album since 2021’s The Neon Eon, which featured Keyshia Cole, Tamar Braxton, Muni Long, Durand Bernarr, and more.
