Marques Houston has returned with his new single, “Last Drop,” via Phoenix Music Group.
On the romantic serenade, which interpolates Tevin Campbell‘s “Can We Talk,” Houston sings: “I wanna be the one that you call when you’re feeling low / I wanna be the one you can call on, girl, that’s for sure.”
Speaking on “Last Drop,” Houston tells Rated R&B, “I wanted to get back to my nostalgic roots by paying homage to one of my favorite songs of all time, ‘Can We Talk’ by Tevin Campbell. I love the way that song makes me feel and the power it has to take me back to a moment of my many crushes as a teen. I wanted to make a rendition of the song and allow that song to be today’s generation’s soundtrack for their crushes.”
“Last Drop” was co-written by Houston and Ryan Hirt, with Jefferey Toney on the production. The song arrives with a video that is a nod to the days of R&B artists dancing and singing in the rain.
“Last Drop” is the follow-up to “Admit It,” which was released in January. Both songs will appear on Houston’s new album, which will arrive later this year. Houston is also expected to announce his headlining tour soon.
The R&B singer’s upcoming project will follow his 2022 EP, ME: Dark Water, which featured Ray J and Monteco.
In other news, Houston’s sophomore album, Naked, turns 19 today (May 24). The album, which included the singles “All Because of You” and the title track, was certified gold by the RIAA in November 2022.
“It means a lot to me because it’s my first solo album that has gone gold,” Houston told Rated R&B about his RIAA award. “Going gold and platinum with the group was always an amazing accomplishment, but going solo, there are sometimes those insecurities and doubts.”
