Brandy will star in the upcoming A24-produced thriller, The Front Room, as previously reported.
The film hits theaters nationwide on Sept. 6, as summer begins to wind down. A24 has released the first trailer of the film, which can be watched below.
Per the logline, “Everything goes to hell for newly-pregnant Belinda (Brandy) after her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere…”
The Front Room, directed by sibling duo Max and Sam Eggers, is an adaption of a short story from British author Susan Hill’s novel The Travelling Bag: And Other Ghostly Stories.
Brandy’s involvement in the film, also starring Andrew Burnap and Neal Huff, was first announced in 2022.
“God you’re Awesome!!!! I trust you with my entire life. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to work with this unbelievable cast, crew, and the studio everyone wants to work with and of course my Eggers fam,” she wrote on Instagram.
Brandy is no stranger to the horror/thriller genre. In 1998, she starred in the slasher film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer as Karla Wilson.
The Front Room isn’t Brandy’s only acting gig this year. The first Black Cinderella also stars in Disney’s musical film Descendants: The Rise of Red, where she will reprise her role as the princess. The movie premieres on Disney+ on July 12.
In music news, Brandy and Monica will join Ariana Grande on her “The Boy Is Mine (Remix),” out Friday (June 21). The two icons previously appeared in Grande’s music video.
