Alternative R&B singer-songwriter Orion Sun is feeling the blues on her new single “Already Gone.”
The downcast ballad, produced by Rodaidh McDonald and Julian Ali, captures the void felt after a breakup. In this case, the ex has moved out, leaving Orion Sun in their once-shared space, all alone with her thoughts.
As anguishing as it may be, her vocal delivery is subdued like she’s still in shock at the realization that it’s all over. The space feels bigger, and time moves in slow motion like she’s in a matrix.
“It’s a mile to the front door / Took a parachute down to the bottom floor / Was gonna meet you outside by the waterfront / But you were already gone,” she laments.

Speaking on “Already Gone,” Orion Sun explains, “It’s about that first night alone when your partner moves out, and it’s obvious nothing will ever be the same. You try to change it fix it or run from it, but you have to come home eventually. The silence becomes heavy like water. Everything was a task. Everything was hard. I was holding on to hope like a life raft. Only in retrospect is it kind of funny. It seems dramatic and annoying, but it was so true to me then.”
“Already Gone” marks Orion’s first release since her 2022 EP, Getaway. The project’s smooth intro track, which she produced, was sampled on Bryson Tiller‘s club banger “Whatever She Wants.”
