Sam Smith has enlisted Alicia Keys for a new version of their 2014 hit “I’m Not The Only One.”
Smith opens the gut-wrenching ballad before Keys, who also plays the piano alongside Reuben James, appears in verse two.
“You’ve been so unavailable / Now, sadly, I know why / And your heart is unobtainable / Even though Lord knows you kept mine,” she sings.
Keys and Smith harmonize throughout the rest of the song like two crushed souls leaning on each other for comfort.
Sam Smith and Alicia Keys’ “I’m Not The Only One” appears on Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (10th Anniversary Edition), a commemorative LP of their debut album, In The Lonely Hour.

“Revisiting the start of my career has been the most incredible experience. I will always be the most proud of In The Lonely Hour as it was my first baby steps into music. I listen back to the album now and it feels like looking back at old photos, a mix of emotions, but I love the record and I still love singing these songs so much,” says Smith.
They continue, “This album was written about a period of unrequited love in my life. It’s a real life coming-of-age story. I am so honored to have worked with Alicia, who is an incredible talent and a beautiful soul, joining me to re-imagine such a special track to celebrate a decade of In The Lonely Hour.”
Keys adds, “I LOVED working on this with Sam and for such a special moment! It’s been on both of our wishlists! The vibe was super intimate. We recorded it at my studio in New York. My son Egypt played Sam some keys and my son Genesis was telling jokes the whole time. Pure music, singing in the room together while I was playing piano.”
In The Lonely Hour (10th Anniversary Edition) includes all 10 tracks of the original album plus an exclusive new track, “Little Sailor.”
The expanded set, totaling 26 tracks, includes live versions of songs from the original album and selections from prior deluxe editions.
Other special guests include Mary J. Blige on “Stay With Me,” John Legend on “Lay Me Down,” and A$AP Rocky on “I’m Not The Only One.”
In The Lonely Hour was released in the U.K. on May 26, 2014, and in the U.S. on June 17. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, with 166,000 copies sold in the first week.
In 2020, In The Lonely Hour was certified 6x platinum by the RIAA, selling over six million equivalent units. Smith’s breakout single “Stay With Me,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100, was certified diamond in 2020, surpassing 10 million copies sold.
The original “I’m Not The Only One,” certified 7x platinum, peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100.
In 2023, Smith released their fourth album, Gloria. The project included their No. 1 hit “Unholy” with Kim Petras and guest appearances from Jessie Reyez, who is featured on three songs, Ed Sheeran, and Koffee.
