John Legend has released his new album My Favorite Dream via Republic Records: Kids & Family.

This isn’t a typical John Legend album. We still get his soulful vocals, pointed songwriting and lively production, but it’s music catered to children.

The 15-track offering includes the lead single “L-O-V-E,” which features Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, and their kids, Luna and Miles.

Although My Favorite Dream is targeted at a younger demographic, the messages within the songs benefit anyone of any age. The album is complete with tunes that inspire hope (“When I Feel Sad”), adventure (“Deep in the Ocean Blue”), love (“We’re Are Family”), rest (“Go To Sleep”) and reassurance (“Always Come Back to You”).

Regarding the album’s inspiration, Legend shared, “I’m right in the thick of fatherhood. My parents loved to sing around the house, making up bedtime songs for us and songs to motivate and inspire us. And Chrissy and I also love singing to our kids. We make up little jingles and ditties for them all the time. In our home, music is very important to the way we interact and communicate with them.”

He added, “Once I started thinking about it, I decided I wanted to write a whole new children’s album. I just took it on as a challenge to write some original lullabies and children’s songs that I would want my kids to hear, something we could share with kids and parents all over the world.”

Speaking on the first single, “L-O-V-E,” Legend noted, “This song captures the spirit of what I always wanted this album to be. I wrote it as an anthem to celebrate our common humanity and bring a smile to people’s faces. I hope this song is uplifting and inspiring for everyone.”

Legend worked closely with multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens, who produced the album. Nine of the album’s 15 tracks are original songs written by Legend. The three bonus tracks (“Great, Great Day,” “Friendship” and “Maybe”) are covers of songs from Fisher-Price’s beloved toys.

My Favorite Dream is the follow-up to Legend’s 2022 double album, LEGEND. The project featured collaborations with Jazmine Sullivan, Muni Long, Ledisi, Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.

Legend has upcoming shows in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Honolulu, and more. A list of tour dates is available at johnlegend.com.
