With Cuffing Season approaching, Phabo brings the feels with his new song “Kissing In Da Club.”
Produced by Trey Lander and Markus Randle, “Kissing In Da Club” captures the desire between two love birds who have been away from each other. No matter where they are, they won’t release each other’s embrace. The song speaks to, despite being in a packed room, the only thing that matters is the person you’re with.
“I’ve been missin’ you like wintеr, no gloves / Touch down and baby knew what it was / They saw us kissin’ in thе back of the club / Don’t judge a n***a, I’ve been gone for some months,” Phabo sings in the chorus.
“‘Kissing In Da Club’ is the overall embodiment of returning back home after a long tour. As a touring artist, more often than not, the act of reconnecting with your loved one can be so important during that time,” Phabo explains to Rated R&B.
He continues, “It has the propensity to supersede the need for privacy. A crowded space can easily become grounds for PDA, or a dark club corner may grant you a brief moment of intimacy. I just wanted to create a record that resonates with that angst and those connections.”
“Kissing In Da Club” is Phabo’s first single since releasing his sophomore album, Don’t Get Too Cozy, in 2023.
Speaking on the album’s listening experience, Phabo told Rated R&B, “It’s purposely peaks and valleys placed throughout the project so that you don’t get too comfortable in any mindset, like ‘Ooh, look at him. He in love on this song. He’s talking like he don’t even care to be here type-sh*t on ‘Your Loss’ with Kalan.FrFr.’ It’s just unpredictability in that sense. New words, new inflections, new beat patterns [and] new cores.”
He added, “[It’s] more authenticity from the start to the finish. I feel like people can look forward to those notes of classic R&B that they grew up listening to and loving as well as the sound that we’re trying to push forward as well.”
Don’t Get Too Cozy included collaborations with Ambré (“NYL”), Arin Ray (“Stay“), Kalan.FrFr (“Your Loss”) and Shae Universe (“Out Of Touch“).
Further, the album included singles such as the Troy Taylor-produced “Luv Songs (Unruly),” “Casamigos,” “Scorpio Moon” and “Before I Let Her Go.” The latter song is also the title track to his 2022 EP.
Since his Don’t Get Too Cozy era, Phabo headlined his Don’t Get Too Cozy Tour, collaborated with several artists, including ESTA. (“Fallen Angel“), and co-wrote “Chapel” on Kehlani’s Crash album, among other highlights.
