After much anticipation, Summer Walker has finally released her new single “Heart of a Woman.”
Produced by Tavaras Jordan, “Heart of a Woman” tells a relatable story of being frustrated in a relationship while struggling with the thought of leaving. It speaks to one’s patience and grace yet questions the limits of love. How much should someone endure before prioritizing their own peace? It’s a thorny topic, but one of Walker’s superpowers is diving into complex love themes in a way that connects with audiences at a deeper level.
“Question is, why I do the things I do? / Answer I may never find, but I’ll always choose you / Wanna give up on you but, damn, I know I can’t / I put the blame on me for giving you chance after chance / In love with you, but can’t stand this,” Walker sings.
“Heart of a Woman” arrives with an official lyric video featuring Love Island season six winners and couple Serena Page and Kordell Beckham.
“Heart of a Woman” is the lead single from Walker’s upcoming third album, Finally Over It. Walker first previewed the track in August in a since-deleted Instagram post featuring a snippet of the song.
On Oct. 11, Walker officially announced her new single with a video teaser. The teaser showed her clad in lingerie, sipping tequila, and listening to a voicemail from an ex-lover.
“Damn, you gotta do me like that?” the mysterious man says in the voicemail. “I was just helping my cousin with groceries. Hit me back when you can talk. I know you’re finally over it, but damn, let’s talk about it. I love you.”
Finally Over It will follow Walker’s 2021 sophomore album, Still Over It, and will complete the trilogy that started with 2018’s Over It.
Still Over It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 166,000 equivalent units sold in the first week. It marked the first R&B album by a woman to debut atop the chart since Solange’s 2016 masterpiece, A Seat at the Table.
In 2023, Walker returned with her CLEAR 2: Soft Life EP, the sequel to her beloved 2019 EP, CLEAR. The former project, which scored Walker her first solo Grammy nod (Best R&B Album), included appearances by rapper J. Cole and genre-bending artist Childish Gambino.
CLEAR 2 debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, tallying Walker’s sixth top 10 entry on this chart.
