Cleo Sol is back. The rising soul singer and songwriter has released her new song anew song, “Fear When You Fly.”
On this warm track, Sol continuously refines what it means to be a generational artist, one who fully commits to a relaxed soul/pop style.
Her soothing voice here serves as a comforting guide, encouraging listeners to grasp the art of letting go, even when it presents challenges in the journey toward becoming a better version of oneself.
She sings, “If you see me, know that I’m not broken / And even though my head may be low / I will not lose hope / If you notice that my smile’s not the same / Some friends I lost on the way / But I still have faith.”
Sol reconnected with her long-time collaborator, Inflo, who has been involved in her other acclaimed works.
In an intimate discussion with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, she expressed that meeting Inflo—whom she affectionately calls Flo—was “so important” and “the most life-changing thing.”
“I think we both had been through so much stuff when we met each other, we were just like, no one’s backing us. No one was waiting for music. There was no nothing,” Sol added.
“Fear When You Fly” is Sol’s first new music this year. In 2023, she released two projects: Heaven and Gold.
Heaven arrived on Sept. 15, 2023, via Forever Living Originals. It followed her 2021 album, Mother.
Two weeks later, Sol released Gold as her second project of 2023. The 10-track offering was rooted in inspirational tunes.
Discussing the latter LP, Sol shared then, “My new album Gold is out. Thank you for riding this wave with me. Thank you for tuning in. This album was made for God — to honor and give thanks. Always. Many tears, felt fear, pushed through anyway. That was so key.”
Heaven was featured on Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2023 list. “What’s most impressive about Heaven is that Sol refuses to settle for lofty words of encouragement that only deliver an abstract understanding of how to love yourself,” wrote Anders Hare.
