Jessie Reyez and Ari Lennox have joined forces for a new song, “Just Like That.”
On the sun-kissed track, produced by Bongo ByTheWay and B-Wiz, Jessie and Ari have their hearts put at ease with newfound love, respectively.
“I just want somethin’ that’s good for me / I got a feelin’ that you could be good for me / Just make me feel somethin’,” Reyez sings.
Lennox appears in the second verse, singing, “Your hands in my hair / Different kind of passion here / But I feel so safe ’round you / So I misbehave ’round you.”
Regarding “Just Like That,” Reyez shares, “Bongos lit. Before the session, Jermi Thomas had selected some beats he should play me. That happened to be one of them. Then I just vibed out and it came to be.”
She continues, “A few weeks later, I was invited in the room as a creative to work with Ari Lennox, and once we were done working on her stuff, I took the opportunity to invite her to be on my record. It was a gift to watch her in the studio. Her voice is incredible, and hearing her on my song was a gift.”
“Just Like That” arrives with an official music video directed by Dane Collision. In the simplistic clip, Reyez and Lennox dance and share laughs in front of yellow, white, and black backdrops.
“Just Like That” follows Reyez’s Lil Wayne-assisted “Ridin” and “Shut Up” featuring Big Sean. All three songs are expected to appear on a forthcoming project, which will follow 2022’s Yessie.
Separately, Reyez released “Child of Fire” earlier this year, which was included on the Rebel Moon: Songs of the Rebellion soundtrack.
She also performed her rendition of “Is This Love” on the Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack. The latter is nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 67th Grammy Awards, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.
As for Lennox, this is her third collaboration of the year following “Stay Away” with Foggieraw and “War” with Camper and Jeremih.
In October, Lennox released “Smoke,” the first single from her upcoming third album that will release in 2025. The retro-soul track debuted at No. 30 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, tallying her sixth entry on this list.
Circling back to Reyez, the Grammy-nominated singer will join Jhené Aiko on the second North American leg of her Magic Hour Tour. The new leg begins Nov. 29 in Toronto, and will make stops in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Raleigh, and more, before concluding Dec. 14 in Memphis.
