Chrisette Michele has earned a new certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Her 2013 single, “A Couple of Forevers,” produced by Pop & Oak, has been certified gold for selling over 500,000 equivalent units.

The romantic ballad, co-written by Tiwa Savage, was the second single from Michele’s Grammy-nominated fourth album, Better.

“A Couple of Forevers,” which samples The O’Jay‘s “Stairway To Heaven,” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay in August 2013. It spent 39 weeks on the chart and is her highest-charting song on that list to date.

Better was released June 11, 2013, via Motown Records. The album, which debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200, landed a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 56th Grammy Awards in 2014.

Speaking on the album, she told Ebony, “I think the music is really special, but I’m definitely in the best space that I’ve ever been in. I feel better than I’ve ever felt, like I’ve finally just become comfortable coming into my own and not really worrying about anyone else’s idea of who I am.”

“A Couple of Forevers” is Chrisette Michele’s second RIAA certification as a lead act. In August, she earned a gold plaque for “Epiphany (I’m Leaving).” The Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelly-helmed hit was the lead single and title track to her 2009 third album.

Michele, who celebrated her 42nd birthday on Dec. 8, is gearing up to release her new single, “Hallelujah,” on Friday, Dec. 13. The inspirational track is the follow-up to “Home,” which marked her first single in four years.

Regarding “Home,” she explained, “The upbeat, horn-filled, soulful tunes will put a smile on anyone’s face. The new lyrics came straight from heaven to my heart. My hope is that people will feel the joy I feel in my heart and sing along. There’s been enough heartbreak. Pain is just a season; it’s not forever. I finally feel ‘At Home’ on the stage… I’ve waited for this feeling for a long time.”

“Home” debuted at No. 30 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in October, marking her first appearance since 2018. The feel-good track has peaked at No. 23 thus far. At the time of this writing, it is No. 28 in its 11th week.
