Legendary R&B group New Edition‘s fifth studio album, Heart Break, will be reissued on vinyl on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14).
The 1988 album will be pressed on standard 2LP black vinyl ($32.99) and on 2LP clear vinyl ($37.99). Both versions are available for preorder.
Heart Break was released June 20, 1988, via MCA Records and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard‘s R&B Albums chart.
Months after the album’s release, it was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over one million copies. It was later certified 2x platinum in 1994 for exceeding two million sales in the U.S.
Heart Break was the then-new member Johnny Gill‘s first album appearance following Bobby Brown‘s solo exit. (Coincidentally, Heart Break was released the same day as Brown’s second solo album, Don’t Be Cruel.)
The Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-helmed album spawned timeless hits such as the Hot 100 top 10 “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand the Rain,” which topped Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart (now called Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs). In 2023, the latter song was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA, while “If It Isn’t Love” was certified platinum.
Two days before New Edition’s Heart Break vinyl reissue, the group will begin the fourth extension of their Las Vegas residency at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.
New Edition: Las Vegas will feature six additional shows, including on Valentine’s Day, with the residency concluding Feb. 22.
“We’re coming back, Las Vegas! 2024 marked a milestone year for all of us in New Edition as we presented our first-ever residency at Encore Theater,” New Edition said in a joint statement.
“It has been an honor to share our music with thousands of our fans over these last 15 shows, and we look forward to making new memories with our fans here at Wynn Las Vegas in 2025.”
The residency features all members of New Edition: Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill.
