SZA‘s sophomore album, SOS, continues to make history on the Billboard charts.
The 2022 album has reached a new milestone, logging its 100th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart dated Jan. 11, 2025. Furthermore, it extends its record as the longest-running No. 1 album on the chart.
SOS surpassed The Weeknd‘s previous record, set by 2020’s After Hours, in its 41st week at No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart. After Hours held the top spot for 40 weeks.
On Dec. 20, 2024, SZA released a deluxe edition of SOS, dubbed SOS Deluxe: LANA, which featured 15 additional tracks, including the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “30 For 30.”
The expanded set also included the previously shared “Saturn” and “Drive.” The latter song was shared the week of the deluxe album release via a music video starring actor and director Ben Stiller.
With the deluxe reissue, SOS has seen a surge across multiple Billboard charts. (The deluxe and original versions are combined for tracking purposes.)
Following the release of LANA, SOS returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 178,000 equivalent units sold in the week ending Dec. 26, 2024. According to Billboard, LANA accounted for 105,000 equivalent units of those sales.
This week on Billboard (Jan. 11 chart), SOS remains No. 1 for a 12th nonconsecutive week with 130,000 equivalent units sold. Elsewhere on the charts, SOS is No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums and leads the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums for a 29th week.
According to the publication, SOS has the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an R&B album by a woman since Whitney Houston‘s self-titled debut LP spent 14 weeks atop the chart in 1986. It’s worth noting the Houston-led The Bodyguard soundtrack spent 20 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 from 1992-1993.
SOS was released Dec. 9, 2022, via Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 318,000 equivalent units sold in the first week, marking SZA’s first No. 1 on that chart. It dominated the popular albums chart for 10 weeks.
The Grammy-winning album was preceded by “Good Days,” “I Hate U,” and “Shirt.” It also included other hits such as “Kill Bill” and “Snooze.”
On April 19, SZA will kick off her co-headlining Grand National Tour with her longtime collaborator and TDE associate Kendrick Lamar. The superstars will play across 19 stadiums in North America before concluding June 18 in Washington, D.C.
SZA is featured on Lamar’s latest album, GNX, on the fan-favorite “luther” and “gloria.” The latter album, which debuted at No. 1, is currently No. 2 in its sixth week on the Billboard 200.
