Alternative R&B singer-songwriter serpentwithfeet has released GRIP SEQUEL, the deluxe edition of his 2024 album, GRIP.
“I had more so say,” says serpentwithfeet. “I had more questions about intimacy and this was a fun way to explore.”
The expanded set features nine additional tracks, including the previously shared “Writhing in the Wind” and “Wanderer.” He described the latter as a song “about a man who lives in isolation and his new passionate paramour.”

Of the nine new tracks, three are alternative versions of songs from the standard album: “Lucky Me – Strings” with Good Girl, “Spades (Remix)” with Ogi and Destin Conrad and “Damn Gloves Baile Funk Remix).” The latter features Ty Dolla $ign, who appears on the original, and Azzy.
“Chapter & Vers” is among the highlights on serpentwithfeet’s GRIP SEQUEL. Here, the Baltimore native embraces versatility in the bedroom. “Boxes don’t suit me and you / We can switch it up, why choose?” he sings.
“Chapter & Vers” is paired with an official music video directed by Darol Olu Kae, which can be watched below.
GRIP SEQUEL arrives a year after serpentwithfeet released GRIP on Feb. 16, 2024, via Secretly Canadian. “GRIP is all about touch. cuz babyyy, Ive been shaped by some heavy hands. i hope this album animates something special in you,” he wrote on Instagram.
The 10-track album featured the singles “Damn Gloves” with Ty Dolla $ign and Yanga Yaya and “Safe Word.”
Regarding the latter track, he explained, “‘Safe Word’ is a sensual song about the beauty of trust that’s been earned and the wonder that follows when partners explore each other with care.”
In 2021, serpentwithfeet released his second album, DEACON. His debut album, soil, was released in 2018.
