Progressive R&B singer Syd has dropped off “GMFU,” her second single of 2025 via Free Lunch/Warner Records.
Produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, with Raphael Saadiq on bass, “GMFU” hears Syd delivering sharp lyrics to an ex with a voice smooth as a hot knife through butter.
“I’ve been with you from the jump / I showed you love / Only one to call your bluff, quit acting tough / We supposed to run it up, but there’s no more us,” Syd sings.
“GMFU,” which stands for “got me f–ked up,” follows “Die For This,” released in July. The latter song marked her first single under new deal with Free Lunch Records, the newly-launched label that also signed Alex Isley.
“Die For This” marked Syd’s first single since her 2022 album, Broken Hearts Club, released via Columbia Records. The album featured collaborations with Lucky Daye, Kehlani and Smino.
Syd is currently on the road supporting pop singer Renee Rap on the U.S. leg of her Bite Me Tour. Their upcoming stops include New York City, Boston, Columbus and more.
