Jill Scott isn’t holding back on sharing new tunes this era. The iconic soul singer premiered her latest track, “Don’t Play,” during her COLORS performance. It’s from her long-awaited album, To Whom This May Concern, dropping Feb. 13.
On “Don’t Play,” produced by Seige Monstracity, Scott guides her romantic partner in the bedroom to ensure maximum satisfaction. She makes it very clear how she wants to be handled between the sheets. “Change the position up / Give me Afrobeats / Please me hard / So hard like a K-Dot lyric,” she belts.
Scott co-wrote “Don’t Play” with Marcus Christopher White. “I wrote this song because people are not screwing right and that just hurts a sister’s heart,” Scott told COLORS. “I really wanted them to get all the loving that they deserve as kind of a tutorial for anybody who’s lacking in the loving department.”
“Don’t Play” is the follow-up to “Pressha” (released Jan. 9) and “Beautiful People” (released Jan. 2). All three tracks will appear on To Whom This May Concern, out Feb. 13 via Human Re Sources / The Orchard.
The 19-track album includes collaborations with Ab-Soul, J.I.D., Tierra Whack and Too $hort, with additional production by VT Tolan, Adam Blackstone, Om’Mas Keith, DJ Premier, Camper, Andre Harris, Trombone Shorty, Eric Wortham and DW Wright.
To Whom This May Concern will follow 2015’s Woman, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. At the time, it marked the first chart-topper by a female R&B singer since Beyoncé’s self-titled album in 2013.
