Rotimi is a first-time certification holder. The singer/actor has earned a gold plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for his Wale-featured track “In My Bed.”

Regarding the certification news, Rotimi wrote on Instagram, “I’m just a first generation Nigerian kid from Jersey. Don’t EVER let anyone tell you that there’s a box, a CEILING or LIMIT to what you can do, or who you can be. Nothing comes easy no shortcuts no delay. Hard work.”

Billed as a single from his 2019 EP The Beauty of Becoming, the Harmony Samuels-produced song received animated video treatment amid the pandemic. He followed with an official video, which has been viewed over 33 million times on YouTube.

The fan-favorite, recognized on Spotify as Rotimi’s most popular song to date, has garnered more than 75.4 million streams on the streaming platform.

Back in June, Rotimi released a pair of tracks: “What to Do” and “Decide.” He hopped on rising artist Precious’ new song “Hey Boy” in April. He closed out last year with “Love Somebody,” a beautiful new song produced by The Bizness. It arrived with a supporting video.
