Blackground Records 2.0 and EMPIRE have digitally reissued the companion soundtrack for the 2000 action flick Romeo Must Die. The Andrzej Bartkowiak-directed film starred Jet Li and Aaliyah, who also contributed four songs to the compilation of her feature film debut.
Among those songs were the DMX-assisted “Come Back in One Piece,” “Are You Feelin’ Me,” “I Don’t Wanna,” and “Try Again.”
The latter track, and the soundtrack’s lead single, produced by Timbaland, made Billboard Hot 100 history in June 2000, rocketing to the top position on the strength of airplay and no commercial release.
With the success of “Try Again,” the soundtrack, released on March 28, 2000, had gone platinum in the U.S. in May 2000.
Other guest appearances on the Romeo Must Die soundtrack included Destiny’s Child, Timbaland and Magoo, Ginuwine, Joe, Chanté Moore, Lil Mo, Dave Hollister, and more.
Last month, Aaliyah’s sophomore album One in a Million was released on streaming platforms for the first time. The album’s supporting videos were made available on YouTube.
Timbaland and Magoo’s catalog followed, including their hit album Welcome to Our World, which featured the gold-selling single “Up Jumps Da’ Boogie.”
Aaliyah’s 2001 self-titled album is receiving a similar rollout on September 10. Her compilation albums I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah arrive on October 8.
In other related news, Aaliyah’s estate has announced the late legend’s MTV Diary episode is set for release in HD soon. Jvck James and Alex Isley recently paid tribute to her as well.
