Janelle Monae The Memory Librarian : And Other Stories of Dirty Computer

Janelle Monáe has announced The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer, a new collaborative book inspired by personal and universal themes from her 2018 album, Dirty Computer. It will be released on April 19, 2022, via HarperCollins.

According to a press release, The Memory Librarian will cover “tales grounded in human trials of identity expression, technology, and love, but also reaching through to the worlds of memory and time within, and the stakes and power that exists there.”

Monáe, who goes as Jane 57821 in the book, was joined in the writing room by Yohanca Delgado, Eve L. Ewing, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Danny Lore, and Sheree Renée Thomas, who all assume Afrofuturistic names.

“It’s been a complete honor to swim in creative waters with other dirty computers in our community. I’m so so thankful for these incredible writers for helping bring these stories to light,” Monáe tweeted.

Monáe’s most recent music release, “Stronger,” came out in July, appearing on the soundtrack for Netflix’s We The People.

She previously made the Oscars 2021 shortlist for Best Original Song for her contribution (“Turntables”) to All In: The Fight For Democracy.

Additionally, Monáe is part of the Knives Out sequel.
