Singer, songwriter and producer Leon Thomas has unveiled the video for his Ty Dolla $ign-featured single, “Love Jones.” It was co-directed by Thomas and Cameron Dean.
The video celebrates all the things that the Los Angeles-based artist, by way of Brooklyn, loves about the city. From its beautiful rock formations to the nightlife, Thomas can’t get enough of the City of Flowers and Sunshine.
“The ‘Love Jones’ music video is a collection of all the things I love about living in California. Having an LA legend like Ty Dolla $ign made the entire concept much more authentic and real,” says Thomas.
According to Thomas, “Love Jones” has a double meaning. “The first is about dating a girl in Hollywood who’s got it together. You fall in love with being inspired by someone on a level,” he explains.
“The second is an ode to the city of Los Angeles. I wanted to find a way to tie in my love for the city I’ve been living in for the last 13 years and my love for the women that find their success here.”

On Thursday night (Sept. 1), moments before the video’s premiere, Thomas went to Instagram Live to talk about his experience creating the visual. He also invited Ty and Dean on the live to build anticipation for the video. During the Live, Thomas told Dean that one of his favorite moments from the video is the rock scene, which uses computer-generated imagery (C.G.I.).
“When the initial idea came together, I was like, ‘Okay. We’ll see how this works.’ Then once I saw the C.G.I. actually in its full form…bro, it was lit. That sh*t actually came together and was super poppin’,” Thomas told Dean on Live.
“Love Jones” is the second single from Thomas’ upcoming debut album, Electric Dusk, slated to arrive later this year on Ty Dolla $ign’s EZMNY Records/Motown Records. It will include the lead single “X-Rated” featuring Benny The Butcher, which dropped in May.
“‘X-Rated’ is an ode to my love of boom bap and early 90’s instrumentals. Benny The Butcher brought authentic bars and helped further the theme of this record,” said Thomas.
Elecric Dusk will follow Thomas’ 2018 debut EP, Genesis. The EP included features from Buddy, Elle Varner, and Tayla Parx.
