Rihanna is back with another new song “Born Again.”
She co-wrote the piano-laden track with James Fauntleroy, The-Dream, and Ludwig Goransson. The latter two also serve as the producers.
“So until those rivers run out / It runs through me / Wherever you are, I’ll be there / We carry on / Born again,” Rihanna sings in the chorus.
“Born Again” appears on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever–Music From and Inspired By soundtrack, which is now available. The song plays during the end credits of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is in theaters now.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack also includes the lead single “Lift Me Up,” performed by Rihanna.
Co-written by Tems, Goransson, Rihanna and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, the emotional elegy pays homage to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman, who originally played T’Challa/Black Panther before passing away in 2020.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” said Tems.
“I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
“Lift Me Up” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart this week. It also topped several other Billboard charts: R&B Streaming Songs, R&B Digital Song Sales, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs.
Additionally, “Lift Me Up” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 2, marking Rihanna’s 32nd top 10 hit on the main singles chart.
“Lift Me Up” has garnered more than 45 million streams on Spotify since releasing on Oct. 28 via Rihanna’s imprint Westbury Road Entertainment, in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records.
Rihanna’s last album Anti was released in 2016. The Grammy-nominated set peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and included the Billboard hits “Needed Me” and “Love On The Brain.”
On Feb. 12, 2023, Rihanna will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show at Super Bowl LVII. She will be the first artist to headline the halftime show under Apple Music’s new partnership with the NFL and Roc Nation.
In other news, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 show is available on Amazon Prime. It features performances by Maxwell, Burna Boy, Anitta and Don Toliver.
