CAMP (formerly known as Aaron Camper) makes a soulful return with his new song, “CNTRL.” It was co-produced by Kenneth “NSFR” Wright and Curtis Wright.
Over a breezy production, with perfectly placed harmonies, CAMP sings about taking control of one’s destiny without fretting over things you can’t control.
CAMP drives the song’s memorandum even further, adding encouraging voice notes from his late father.
“With ‘CNTRL,’ I just wanted to set a different tone musically,” CAMP told Rated R&B. “As a musician as well as a writer and performer, I wanted to bring another pace, vibe, and energy to the table overall. I sit back and watch the ‘R&B Wars convos’ a lot for entertainment, and saw that being toxic actually isn’t much of a challenge, but being vulnerable is.”
CAMP also explained why he included those sentimental discussions from his father. “Once we finished the song and added my dad’s messages, I loved how comforted and assured I felt, in a way that made me ok with releasing this message that not only makes me feel stronger and pushes me, but reinforces that same feeling for [the] listener too,” he said.
CAMP’s new track “CNTRL” is accompanied by a video that finds him in a tunnel, surrounded by graffiti and blue lights.
“CNTRL” is the first taste of what to expect from CAMP’s upcoming EP, which he described as “a reflection and personification of what grown-up R&B should sound like from a tenured industry-veteran.”
The untitled EP will follow CAMP’s trilogy of EPs, Lucid, Process and Therapy.
