Chlöe Bailey has officially relaunched her debut era with “Pray It Away,” the lead single from her debut album, In Pieces.
“Pray It Away” was co-produced by Chlöe, ThankGod4Cody, ECassshh, Pitt Tha Kid and Puredandy. The honest track finds a scorned Chlöe turning to her Higher Power for guidance, as she considers seeking revenge on an unfaithful ex. She also reflects on her character defects and how they may influence her antagonistic ways.
“Maybe I should go and take it to church, ooh-ooh / Wait, ’cause I want that n*ga to hurt / But I’ma just pray it away before I give him what he deserves first,” Chlöe sings in the chorus.
“Pray It Away” is accompanied by a cinematic video directed by Madeline Kate Kann and choreography by Cortland Brown.
“Pray It Away” is the official lead single from Chlöe’s debut album, In Pieces, set to release in March on Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records.
“I have been the rawest, the most vulnerable, and the most open I have been in my entire life with this album,” says Chlöe. “I used to believe the way I love so hard without question, was a curse. Only to find out, it’s been my greatest gift all along.”
Chlöe’s debut album was previously self-titled; however, she recently announced that she had a change of heart. She also confirmed that her previously released songs — “Have Mercy,” “Treat Me,” “Surprise” and “For The Night” — will not appear on In Pieces.
“It was gonna be self titled at first, but half the music change[d] and it felt more vulnerable and raw,” Chlöe wrote to fans via her official Discord server.
Chlöe told Billboard that she started working on her debut album in 2019. But she had to shift her focus back to Chloe x Halle’s sophomore album, Ungodly Hour, the following year.
“I put a pause on it so my sister and I could promote Ungodly Hour, but in between I was in my bedroom creating at night,” said Chlöe. “I’d be making my own beats and working on songs and ideas for this project that I knew would come, I just didn’t know when.”
Chlöe is scheduled to perform at Sol Blume on Sunday, April 30, at Discovery Park in Sacramento, California. Kehlani, Teyana Taylor, Muni Long, Coco Jones and more are set to perform as well.
