Beyoncé’s “BREAK MY SOUL” won Best Dance/Electronic Recording at the 65th Grammy Awards. The platinum-selling song appears on the music icon’s seventh studio album Renaissance.
Winning this award for her first nomination in the dance field, Beyoncé makes history as the only artist in Grammy history to have succeeded in the dance, pop, R&B and rap genres.
Beyoncé is the third Black woman to win Grammys in four different genres behind Donna Summer and Mary J. Blige. Summer had wins in R&B, rock, pop and gospel (then inspirational). Summer also won the first award for Best Dance Recording in 1998 for “Carry On.”
Blige won gramophones in the following genre-specific fields: R&B, rap, gospel and pop.
Beyoncé previously won in the rap field for contributing to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage (Remix)” at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021. It won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
At the 43rd Grammys, Beyoncé took home her first Grammy in the R&B field for “Say My Name,” performed as Destiny’s Child.
Three years later, Beyoncé won solo R&B wins for her debut album Dangerously in Love at the 46th Grammys Awards in 2004.

Beyoncé also prevailed that year for the first time in the rap field (Best Rap/Sung Performance) for “Crazy in Love,” her debut solo single featuring Jay-Z.
In 2010, at the 52nd Grammy Awards, Beyoncé swept the ceremony with six wins, one of which was Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Halo.” The song appears on her award-winning third album, I Am…Sasha Fierce.
Additionally, Beyoncé becomes the fourth Black woman to win Best Dance/Electronic Recording, following Summer, Janet Jackson and Rihanna.
Shifting back to “BREAK MY SOUL,” the house-inspired track was co-written and co-produced by Beyoncé, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. It was released as the lead single from Renaissance, the first of a trilogy.
“BREAK MY SOUL” went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Beyoncé her eighth leader. It also marked her second No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
