Raphael Saadiq has released his new song “Miracle” as an Amazon exclusive before its Dec. 1 release.
For the Prime holiday film Candy Cane Lane, he wrote and produced an original song with vocal support from U.K. artist Kelli-Leigh.
Amidst the holiday chaos, Kell-Leigh inspires hope and joy while promoting harmony. She also praises those who persevere through difficult times to support their loved ones.
Discussing his new song, Saadiq says, “The song ‘Miracle’ is about, of course, a miracle. Once you see the film, you see all these amazing things happening – a little bit of beautiful magic between a family and a mother and father. ‘Miracle’ just comes on and tells that whole story of how a family works.”
“Miracle” precedes Candy Cane Lane, which stars Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross. The festive movie, directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Kelly Younger, will be released on Prime Video worldwide on Dec. 1.
Saadiq’s latest comes in the wake of Chlöe releasing two holiday songs for Candy Cane Lane, including “Merry Christmas Baby,” made famous by Otis Redding.
It’s Saadiq’s first new music since his feature on Nanna.B’s “Too Much” last year. He also contributed an original song called “My Path” for the Nancy Buirski film, A Crime On The Bayou, just a year before that.
Saadiq has upped his profile for soundtracks. He worked on music for Netflix’s From Scratch and most recently, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Saadiq’s last studio album, Jimmy Lee, was released in 2019. The album included the hit single “Something Keeps Calling,” which went No. 1 and No. 2 on R&B radio (then known as urban adult contemporary radio) and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Additionally, Saadiq’s musical participation for Candy Cane Lane comes after he ended the reunion tour, Just Me & You, with Tony! Toni! Toné! The U.S. tour, powered by Live Nation Urban, began in September and ended earlier this month.
A new Tony! Toni! Toné! album is in the works, according to Saadiq.
“We definitely gonna do an album after this tour,” Saadiq told Vulture’s Brandon Caldwell. “We’re working on it as we speak, in all these rooms.”
The official release date and title for the forthcoming album have not yet been announced. It’s been 27 years since Tony! Toni! Toné! released their last album House of Music on Nov. 19, 1996, under Mercury Records.
