R&B trio Tony! Toni! Toné!, made up of Raphael Saadiq, D’wayne Wiggins, and Timothy Christian Riley, have revealed the dates for their upcoming tour, Raphael Saadiq Revisits Tony! Toni! Toné!: Just Me and You.
This announcement comes just in time for the 30th anniversary of their third album, Sons of Soul.
Produced by Live Nation Urban, the tour will begin Sept. 21 at the BJCC Concert Hall in Birmingham, Alabama, and will include stops in over 20 cities, such as Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles. Tony! Toni! Toné! announced their tour earlier this spring, and their loyal fans were excited.
The upcoming tour might feature music from the group’s four studio albums, with their latest being House of Music, released in 1996. The album includes the hit single “Let’s Get Down” and has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
This week, the group will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their most successful album, Sons of Soul. The album received double platinum certification and produced a clutch of hit singles, such as “Anniversary” and “If I Had No Loot,” both of which were certified gold.
Saadiq could play his solo music during the tour, as many of his albums celebrate anniversaries this year. These albums include 2008’s The Way I See It, and 2003’s All Hits at the House of Blues.
At the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009, the former LP received a nomination for Best R&B Album, and two of its tracks, “Never Give You Up” and “Love That Girl,” were also nominated for performance awards.
Saadiq last released an album in 2019. Released on Columbia Records, Jimmy Lee included the comeback single “Something Keeps Calling,” which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It also peaked at No. 1 on R&B radio (then known as urban adult contemporary radio).
Rated R&B reviewed Jimmy Lee, calling it “one of the purest confessions to come out” in 2019. The album was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2019 list.
Saadiq’s songwriting contribution to Beyonce’s hit single “Cuff It” earned him the Best R&B Song award at the 65th Grammy Awards. He also co-wrote on Daniel Caesar’s new album, Never Enough, out now.
