Raphael Saadiq is celebrating his first solo number one single on urban adult contemporary radio this week.
With more than nine million listener impressions garnered from airplay at 86 stations, the legendary musician’s comeback record “Something Keeps Calling” displaces Khalid’s smash hit “Talk” after an extended residency atop the radio chart.
If the Rob Bacon-assisted groove unseats Khalid’s Free Spirit single on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart, it will be his first solo chart-topper. Saadiq came close for “Ask You,” which peaked at No. 3 in 1995.
Saadiq is familiar with the top slot on the aforementioned Billboard chart, as his influential group Tony! Toni! Tone! bagged a pair for “Anniversary” in 1997 and in 2004 for “Diary” with Alicia Keys.
“Something Keeps Calling” is lifted off Jimmy Lee, Saadiq’s first album since 2011’s Stone Rollin’. The self-produced album, which we reviewed upon release, also features the advance singles: “So Ready” and “Glory to the Veins.”
Starting on January 23, 2020, Saadiq is playing tour dates in support of his personal new album. Tickets are available now.
