Ariana Grande has enlisted R&B legends Brandy and Monica for a remix of her latest single, “The Boy Is Mine.”
The remix will release June 21 via Republic Records.
Grande announced the news on Monday morning (June 17) on Instagram. “I ……… cannot believe this is real (I don’t know if I will even long after it’s out) my deepest and sincerest thank you to Brandy and Monica, not only for joining me for this moment, but for your generosity, your kindness, and for the countless ways in which you have inspired me,” wrote Grande.
She continued, “It is near impossible to say how much this means to me. This is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, artist that is creating today. I loooooove you both so so much. thank you!!!!!!!”
Brandy and Monica’s feature on Grande’s remix comes just weeks after appearing in the video for the original version. In the Catwoman-inspired video, directed by Christian Breslauer, Brandy and Monica play news anchors reporting on Mayor Max Starling’s (Penn Badgley) press conference to address the city’s rat infestation.
Grande’s “The Boy Is Mine,” produced by Max Martin, is the latest single from her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, released on March 8 via Republic Records. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 227,000 equivalent units sold in the first week.
Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” was released in 1998. The Darkchild and Dallas Austin-produced hit spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song won Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal at the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999. It marked Brandy and Monica’s first Grammy win.
“The Boy Is Mine” was featured on Brandy’s sophomore album, Never Say Never, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
The duet also was the title track to Monica’s second album, which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
