The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will honor Coco Jones at its 16th annual ASCAP Women Behind The Music ceremony on Nov. 12 in Los Angeles.

According to ASCAP, the honor “recognizes inspiring women in the music community, honoring songwriters, artists and executives including managers, attorneys, label executives and music publishers.”

“This event is so special to us. Over the past 16 years, ASCAP Women Behind the Music has given us a platform to celebrate exemplary women and their incredible achievements as leaders in the music industry,” says Nicole George-Middleton, ASCAP’s senior vice president of membership and ASCAP Foundation executive director.

George-Middleton continues, “We are so proud to recognize the women who have made such a profound impact through their leadership and art, and we hope to empower the next generation to do the same.”

In addition to Jones, other honorees this year include Emmy-winning composer Amanda Jones and Autumn Rowe, a Grammy-winning songwriter and advocate.

No announcement has been made about who will salute the women at the ceremony. However, George-Middleton will present and congratulate the 2024 recipients, presented by ASCAP Rhythm & Soul department.

Previous ASCAP Women Behind The Music honorees have included Sevyn Streeter, K. Michelle, Melanie Fiona, Nova Wav, Joelle James, Keke Wyatt, and most recently, Summer Walker, in 2023.

As Jones continues to tease her currently untitled debut album, she keeps busy with recording output.

In October, Jones collaborated with Future and London on da Track on the “Most Beautiful Design,” also the third song release leading up to her first full-length project, slated for a 2025 arrival.

“I’ve always been a fan of rap and R&B duets, so being able to modernize that format alongside Future – a rapper with such longevity and years of success in the game, is so exciting to me,” said Jones of her collaboration with Future and London on da Track.

Jones added, “‘Most Beautiful Design’ is the space London on da Track discovered where both of our worlds collide and we get to find common ground as, rapper and singer, and as man and woman.”

Over the course of 2024, Jones shared two other songs, “Sweep It Up,” and “Here We Go (Uh Oh).” The latter track landed in May and has since then hit No. 7 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart – her second top 10 hit as a lead artist.

Regarding the song’s inspiration, Coco Jones exclusively told Rated R&B, “I think the music inspired the song concept because I feel like with the sample, it feels like this orchestra and like a mystery.”

She continued, “[It’s] like this mission is happening like 007 or something. I was like, ‘What could be the mission here?’ And the mission, I feel like, is to be free from this person that constantly comes back in — to get over that hurdle.”

Beyond the charts, “Here We Go (Uh Oh),” which samples Lenny Williams’ “Cause I Love You” and was produced by Cardiak and Wu10, has brought Jones’ total Grammy nominations to six.

Today (Nov. 8), the Recording Academy announced that “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” has been nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song at the 67th annual ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

These new nominations are a perfect lead-up to her debut album. Jones exclusively mentioned to Rated R&B that she recorded approximately 40 songs for the project.

“One thing that I realized is as much as you try, the more you’ll get to choose from. I would rather have tried out all lanes, all the combinations [and] all the emotions than be like, ‘Did I record enough?’ I can’t deal with the what-ifs. I can’t. I just want to walk away feeling like I did it all,” Jones said.
