Mariah The Scientist‘s latest single “Burning Blue” continues to heat up the charts.
The Nineteen85 and Jetski Purp-produced ballad rises from No. 3 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart. It’s Mariah The Scientist’s first leader on this chart.
“Burning Blue” debuted at No. 32 on the chart dated May 24. It marked her second entry following her appearance on Tee Grizzley’s “IDGAF” with Chris Brown.
On the Rhythmic radio chart, monitored by Mediabase, “Burning Blue” rises to No. 1 this week with 6,068 spins and 11.35 million audience impressions.
Elsewhere on Billboard, “Burning Blue” is No. 1 on R&B Digital Song Sales. It’s also her sole entry on the chart.
“Burning Blue” is the lead single from Mariah The Scientist’s fourth album, Hearts Sold Separately. The song debuted at No. 25 on the coveted Billboard Hot 100, marking her highest-charting single to date.
In an interview with Complex, she revealed that “Burning Blue” isn’t as deep as some fans have made it out to be. She further clarified the song’s meaning in a comment on the publication’s Instagram post.
“Here I am, explaining myself yet again in the comments. ‘BURNING BLUE’ has no specific meaning at all, it was just a play on words as the beat was titled ‘blue fever,’ which I say in the first five words. I’m sorry that it’s so hard to comprehend that yes, some song concepts come just that easily, simple as that,” Mariah The Scientist wrote.
She continued, “Not all songs are like that, for example ‘Spread Thin’ I wrote with an actual objective because it was originally supposed to be apart of a soundtrack. To me, the lyrics to ‘Burning Blue’ are self explanatory, however I’m aware that I can be really metaphorical so everybody has a different interpretation. What’s simple for me is not simple for everyone. Everybody’s trying to force me to have a specific meaning for it and it just doesn’t lol, it’s what was on my heart in the moment.”
Hearts Sold Separately releases Aug. 22 via Epic Records. The 10-track album follows 2023’s To Be Eaten Alive, which was her first project released under her new deal with Epic.
On Aug. 31, Mariah The Scientist will headline day two of the SomeKinda R&B Festival at Montebello Park in St. Catharines, Ontario.
