R&B singer-songwriter ROE has released her new EP Oakwood, titled after her hometown in California.
The four-track set includes the previously shared “In My Skin,” “Stay” and “Love You Now.”
“Oakwood is a love letter to my Hometown in Venice, CA. It’s love, it’s community, family and resilience. It’s new nostalgia, oldies and goodies. It’s absolutely everything and I’m so excited to share,” says ROE.
The project’s sole new track, “Pull Up (Drop),” recalls the early 2000s with its sample of Timbaland and Magoo’s “Drop” featuring Fatman Scoop.
“‘Pull Up (Drop)’ is full of nostalgic fun and excitement that takes me back to the feelings I felt when my favorite song came out as a kid, and I hope others feel the same way!” says ROE. “R.I.P Fatman Scoop! Thank you for your blessing on this record!”
ROE launched her Oakwood project with the sultry lead single, “In My Skin.” She explained, “‘In My Skin’ is about work/love life balance. It’s like, I’m really busy but it doesn’t affect how I feel about the connection — and the anticipation of being back in my person’s presence is heated.”
Oakwood is ROE’s first project since her debut EP, My Way, released in 2021. It included the popular tracks “Fool 4 U” and “I Like,” both of which have garnered more than two million streams each on Spotify.
