India Shawn tells a tale of lessons learned from a relationship in her new single “Gone.”
Produced by longtime collaborator D’Mile, “Gone” delivers vintage soul with a cinematic Western edge. The song’s lyrics reflect the light found after breaking away from a love that couldn’t be mended. “I’ve seen the cracks in you / But fixing you will have me broken too / You’re so stuck in your ways, it’s time to go,” she sings.
“‘Gone’ isn’t just about someone leaving, it’s about what I gain in their absence. Peace. Clarity. Strength. This song is about being more than okay alone—it’s about finally feeling powerful in it,” explains Shawn.
She continues, “‘Gone’ is about releasing what doesn’t serve you—not in bitterness, but in clarity. It’s me learning that being alone isn’t lonely when you’re finally honest about what you deserve. I wrote it from that moment where you stop fighting to fix something that keeps breaking you, and instead, you choose yourself. Sonically, I wanted to break out of my own box with this song. D’Mile and I kept pushing until it felt bigger than just a pretty track—it had to feel like an anthem for finally walking away and not looking back.”

The official music video for “Gone,” directed by David Maxwell, expands the song’s meaning beyond romance. It shows Shawn breaking away from an office job that doesn’t align with her. Shawn’s busy co-workers are all dressed in professional attire, while she is laid back in knee-high denim boots with a matching jacket, a look that could suggest she is in a situation where she isn’t being fulfilled.
Soon enough, she finds herself horseback riding through dusty roads before she arrives at a gymnasium that turns into a liquor-filled party with a group of other women. Things take a turn when a cop discovers them in the vacant facility. You’ll have to watch the video to see how it plays out.

Shawn co-wrote “Gone” with D’Mile, Bianca “Blush” Atterbery and Jean Baptiste Kouam. It’s her third single of 2025, following the Lucky Daye-assisted “Cotton Candy Blvd” and “Kill Shot.” All three tracks were produced by D’Mile.
Shawn’s wave of new tracks follows her 2022 debut album, Before We Go (Deeper). The latter featured collaborations with Anderson .Paak, 6LACK, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cory Henry and Kaye Fox.
