Whether we embrace it or not, change is inevitable. It sometimes happens when we want it and oftentimes when we’re not even thinking about it. On her new EP, Subject To Change, India Shawn leans into the uncertainty life offers.

“Falling in and out of feelings. Nothing is fixed, everything is in flux,” says Shawn. “My new EP, ‘Subject To Change,’ moves through sonic worlds from bright, airy ‘Marmalade’ to the dark, melancholic ‘Multiplicity.’ Nothing ever really stays the same, especially matters of the heart, and I wanted the music to move as fluidly as we do.”

Subject To Change was preceded by “Kill Switch,” “Cotton Candy Blvd” with Lucky Daye and “Rain On Me.” “‘Kill Switch’ is an unexpected shift, as I move away from the familiar shadows of unreturned love and reclaim the power to decide my own fate,” she explained. “It’s a song about recognizing the potential danger of crossing the line from friends to lovers, and trying to safeguard what’s real before it becomes too messy.”

Regarding “Cotton Candy Blvd,” Shawn shared, “‘Cotton Candy Blvd’ is a summer night, a slow drive, and a long-awaited yes. I’ve been waiting just as long as the fans for this dream collab, and it delivers. There’s something magical about the way Lucky and I blended on the record.”

As for “Rain On Me,” she noted it’s “the feeling every woman wants. To be loved in abundance and to feel secure with someone who sees her value and shows up for her fully.”

Subject To Change arrives via D’Mile’s VANTA Records. It’s the follow-up to Shawn’s 2022 debut album, Before We Go (Deeper), released via Epic Records. The latter project included “Movin’ On” with Anderson .Paak, “Not Too Deep” featuring 6LACK and “Too Sweet” with Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
