Buzzing singer-songwriter Earl St. Clair makes his official introduction with his debut EP My Name is Earl. Released on Def Jam Recordings, the EP features seven soulful tracks and includes a guest appearance from rising singer and Rated Next Artist PJ.
Clair opens the EP with a blues-influenced song called “Pain,” where he sings about losing his parents. “Its getting kind of bad / This heart I got I wish I didn’t have / I’d give anything to get my momma back / When she left my whole world was cut in half,” sings Clair. He continues, “My daddy died before I turned 25 / But he left me a little money / I’d much rather have my daddy alive / Ohhh, why did God take him from me.”
He continues to sing about loss on “Three Story Home,” where he reflects on a past relationship. “I realize that you’re all that I need / Without you by my side then I can’t sleep / These nights don’t get easy when you’re gone / They get harder,” he sings.
Clair tries to fill the void in his heart on “Criminal” and “Bad Love.” The latter track has a nostalgic funk/R&B vibe that’s reminiscent of the late Rick James.
The EP ends with the guitar-driven track, “Beautiful War.” With all that he’s been through in his life, Clair believes it has only made him stronger. “War is never pretty but the outcome could be gorgeous,” he states.
