Reality music competitions have launched the careers of some of the industry’s most talented singers, from Fantasia to Jennifer Hudson. VH1 tried their luck with a documentary series style show Signed, which premiered in late July. For eight episodes, America saw the auditions and grooming of a handful of young and (mostly) black singers and rappers. At the forefront were the mentors: hitmaker The-Dream, Miami’s very own Rick Ross, and Senior Vice President of Roc Nation Lenny Santiago. Out of the final eight contestants, six received some sort of contract, but only one female singer scored a full deal: Bria Jhane.
Throughout the course of the competition, Bria has shined, immediately being dubbed as a “priority” contestant by The-Dream upon the completion of her audition. Her tenacity, performance skills, and overall vocal talent led The-Dream to sign her to his record label RadioKilla Records upon the season’s finale, which aired Sept. 13.
As soon as the finale aired, Bria released her first official single “Over You,” a heart-wrenching alt-R&B ballad that describes the many emotions one feels when trying to detach themselves from a former flame.
“So don’t break my heart, again/So don’t you just break my heart, again/So don’t you pretend that we’re something we’re not/That way I don’t have to get over you again,” she sings.
Bria confirmed via Twitter that her The-Dream-penned finale song, “Run To You,” will be released within the next week. Listen to “Over You” below.
