Just two weeks after the premiere of the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, The Weeknd, SZA, and Travis Scott band together for an epic collaboration titled “Power is Power.”
The main adhesive for the influential track derives from the electric drum pattern and its thundering synths. With support from the eclectic and head-thumping backdrop, The Weeknd effortlessly gushes about immortality, boasting that his power comes from being born in the cold winter.
SZA chimes in for the second round, bringing her ethereal chords out to play. Her verse is more vulnerable than The Weeknd, as she raises questions about power as opposed to flexing about it. Scott comes in like clockwork towards the end of the monstrous track, adding in his signature Auto-Tune adlibs.
“Power is Power” is the latest offering from the For the Throne soundtrack, which is directly tied to the fantasy drama series. Scheduled to arrive on April 26 via Columbia Records, the star-studded compilation will feature guest stars Chloe X Halle, Jacob Banks, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.
SZA is gearing up for an epic year. The singer is secretly working on her highly-anticipated follow-up to Grammy-nominated album Ctrl. She recently has been seen on a mysterious video shoot with DJ Khaled’s forthcoming album, Father of Asahd, due out May 17.
On June 2, SZA is set to perform on night-three of the 2019 Governors Ball Music Festival.
As for The Weeknd, he just spearheaded NAV’s new album Bad Habits as executive producer. He also lent his melodic vocals to the fan-favorite track “Price on My Head.”
