The 2019 Black Girls Rock! brought out some of entertainment’s biggest and brightest stars on Sunday night. The annual celebration recognized the extraordinary contributions of Black women in diverse fields across the world. Ciara (Rock Star Award) and H.E.R. (Young Gifted and Black) were among the honorees celebrated for their Black girl magic.
The two-hour special scored tens across the board with stellar musical performances. The show started on a nostalgic note with greatest hits by Robin S, Crystal Waters and CeCe Peniston.
Ari Lennox rocked the crowd with a Shea Butter Baby medley, while India.Arie delivered her top 10 R&B hit “Steady Love.” Then, Kiana Ledé who put on dramatic set for “Heavy” off her Myself EP.
Monica, who is readying her Chapter 38 album, commanded the stage with “Commitment,” her first number one single in nearly a decade. Elle Varner jazzed up the stage with ‘Number One Song” from her Ellevation EP. Erykah Badu capped off the show with an unforgettable performance with Common and William Murphy.
