Lianne La Havas is back. The British singer/songwriter has released her new single titled “Bittersweet.”
Over a calming production she sings, “Please stop asking, ‘Do you still love me? / Don’t have much to say, let’s speak in the morning.”
La Havas’ return comes in the midst of the exhausting social media debate about the state of R&B. La Havas’ lyricism and vocal acrobatics on “Bittersweet,” coupled with the song’s live instrumentation, is a reminder that R&B is in a great place.
R&B is everywhere:
– Rappers are singing their own hooks.
– There are even some rappers posing as R&B artists when it's convenient.
– 'Pop artists' using R&B to reinvent themselves.
– Everyone is sampling R&B records to score a hit. https://t.co/vjojXocs8l— Rated R&B (@RatedRnB) February 24, 2020
Speaking on her return, La Havas says, “I’d forgotten how much I love singing. I’ve tapped into the best and worst parts of me and while I didn’t expect this to be the direction of my new music, it’s my reality and it’s driven by emotion.”
“Bittersweet” is the first single from La Havas’ forthcoming album that will release this year via Nonesuch Records/Warner Music UK. The highly anitcipated LP will follow La Havas’ critically-acclaimed album, Blood, which released in 2015.
