Before 2019 came to a close, Paloma Ford dropped off her bedroom-ready jam “Rain.” It was the first signal of a comeback after a two-year hiatus. Now, the singer-songwriter taps into her emotions on her newest release “Chrome (In My Feelings Version).”
Ahead of releasing the official audio for the song, Ford has shared an acoustic performance. Premiering on Rated R&B, the live performance was filmed at SIR Studios in Los Angeles right before California Governor Gavin Newsom initiated a stay-at-home order to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
For nearly eight minutes Ford, who is accompanied by a small band and background singer, takes her time as she brings the soul-stirring lyrics to life. “Gotta switch the tone / Nigga, you must not know / I don’t need anybody / I can make it alone,” she sings.
“Chrome is an emotion—a headspace showing the balance between being a gentle soul and not being played with,” Ford explains to Rated R&B. “Even though I’m ‘in my feelings,’ I show strength and comfort in who I am and how I react. I own that. I’m really excited to share that feeling with people and connect with fans in a way I’ve never done before.”
“Chrome” and “Rain” will appear on Ford’s upcoming project, X Tapes, which is set to arrive before summer. Speaking on X Tapes, Ford explains, “X Tapes tells a true story of love, love lost and all the emotions encompassed between. The tape flows through experiences from letting your guard down and taking a leap of faith to the moments spent realizing you left yourself vulnerable to someone that doesn’t love as hard as you.”
