Summer Walker isn’t the only woman in R&B giving Eartha Kitt’s iconic song “Santa Baby” a new spin. Brave Williams is next up to bat, knocking the winning rendition of the holiday standard out the park with her incredible vocal control and a snapping production helmed by Johnnie “Smurf” Smith and Ivan “Orthodox” Barias.
Williams explains why she decided to take on Kitt’s signature chestnut. “Eartha Kitt’s voice has always captured me when I heard her sing ‘Santa Baby.’ The simplicity of how she delivered each line was magical. It’s been one of my favorite songs during the holiday,” Williams shares with Rated R&B.
Williams stars as Nicole in the new BET original holiday film, The Christmas Lottery. “To film a movie during a pandemic, in itself, is a huge blessing. So, to film a Christmas film about family, love, the intricacies of sibling relationships, was truly an honor,” she says. “The Christmas Lottery meant so much to me because it touches base on so many family dynamics that I personally have dealt with, like my character, mentally losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s is one. It’s the perfect example, that despite what family goes through, in the end, we’re always there to hold each other up and be there for one another.”
