This week’s Throwback Thursday comes from music icon Anita Baker. Before topping the R&B world with her second studio album, Rapture, it was Baker’s second single, “Angel,” from her debut album, The Songstress, that captured the ears of R&B listeners. The mid-tempo groove showcases sincere love and declares to their lover, “you’re my angel.” The track peaked #5 on the R&B charts in the summer of 1983.
In summer 2012, Baker reclaimed her spot back in the music world with her remake of Tyrese’s 1999 hit, “Lately.” The song will appear on Baker’s long awaited seventh studio album, Only Forever.
