Our Throwback Thursday theme this month is “Unsung Female Voices of the 80’s.” One underrated female artist of that time was La Toya Jackson, the sibling of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. While her siblings were receiving well-deserved attention, La Toya’s music was being overlooked.
One of La Toya’s gems was her sophomore single “Night Time Lover” from her self-titled album. The song, released in 1980, was co-written and produced by the King of Pop himself. The groovy track also features co-lead vocals from Michael Jackson.
Even with the assistance of her brother, “Night Time Lover” only received mild success on the charts. It peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard R&B Chart. Meanwhile, La Toya’s debut album peaked at No. 126 on the Billboard 200.
