R&B/Soul singer D’Angelo has joined the lineup to honor the Godfather of Soul at “Get On Up: A James Brown Celebration” this August.
The tribute will take place on August 13 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The lineup will also feature singers Aloe Blacc, Angélique Kidjo and Bettye LaVette.
The concert will be a part of the venue’s Jazz Bowl series and will coincide with the release of the highly anticipated James Brown biopic “Get On Up”, slated to hit theaters on August 1. The film stars Chadwick Boseman (“42”) as Brown along with Neo-soul singer Jill Scott, who plays Brown’s second wife Deirdre “Deedee” Jenkins.
D’Angelo plans to release his 1996 EP “Live at The Jazz Café, London: The Complete Show”, to his U.S. fans next week. The EP, which was only released in Japan, captures the “Untitled” singer’s first full concert and includes notable covers, background vocals from R&B Diva Angie Stone and an exclusive interview.
“Live at The Jazz Café, London: The Complete Show” will be released stateside on March 25.
