When we last spoke to Brave Williams, it was at the 2014 African-American Festival. She had just released her single “Oooh (Luv Ya),” a feel-good anthem that’s perfect to play during summer weather. A lot has changed since then — in a good way. The former Richgirl member was casted on the third season of R&B Divas: LA, which premiered on February 11.
Williams made her official debut on the show on February 18 and judging from the Twittersphere, she was well-received.
The Baltimore native recently sat down with Rated R&B for an intimate interview where she discussed her upcoming single “Road Trippin” and her experience filming R&B Divas: LA.
Read our interview with Brave Williams below.
What would you say is your boldest or your bravest track on Fearless?
I’m actually developing a song right now called “Fearless” but it’s not quite complete yet. So, the one I say is complete that’s bold is “Road Trippin.”
Tell us about your new single “Road Trippin.”
It’s more of a sexier vibe. When you hear it, it puts you in a groove like you want to dance. It’s very mysterious. The whole vibe of it is mysterious. It’s just a different sound for me.
Congratulations on being casted on “R&B Divas: LA.” What would you say is one thing you learned about yourself while filming this season?
That it’s always important to sincerely be who you are and walk in that truth so you never have to second guess conversations or second guess any experience.
With you being on a show called “R&B Divas,” did the title itself add any pressure on you?
It did because I know that I rap, so when I think of “R&B Divas” I think of vocalists that do a lot of acrobatics. My background is rapping and singing but my first love is rap. The title added a little pressure but it was good. My experiences made me comfortable but me as a solo artist, that’s where the pressure came.
How was it working with the other new cast member Stacy Francis?
It was exciting. I have my own personal relationship with the girls and when you have dynamic strong women like that in one room, anything is bound to happen. I’m a big believer that everyone deserves respect. It was a great experience.
How did you fit in with the cast?
I am the diplomatic, fair one. I’m not taking sides. I’m trying to reason and make sense of maybe why someone may feel a particular way and making sure we hash it out and talk about it.
Would you say your diplomatic trait stemmed from you being a part of a girl group and growing up with lots of siblings?
Yes! Even in my group, they would be like “Oh, gosh! Brave wants to have another roundtable meeting.” But yes, communication is key, so that’s what I definitely implemented this season.
Catch Brave Williams on “R&B Divas: LA” on Wednesday nights at 10pm on TVOne.
