Talented musician Robert Glasper has a special new album on the way. Scheduled to arrive on June 16 via Blue Note Records, Covered, will serve as the follow-up set to Glasper’s Black Radio 2 album.
The acoustic jazz-based album, recorded by his trio Vicente Archer (bass) and Damion Reid (drums), will cover songs by music’s finest artists including Jhené Aiko, John Legend, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, Musiq Soulchild, Bilal and others. The album features original music recorded by Glasper.
Glasper and his trio are currently performing the new material at the famed Village Vanguard in New York City.
In addition to promoting the album, Glasper is composing original music for the Miles Davis film Miles Ahead, which is in production. Don Cheadle serves as the director for the film. Glasper is also working on new music with Mary J. Blige.
Last month, Glasper won his second GRAMMY Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children,” which was performed by Lalah Hathaway and Malcolm Jamal Warner.
