R&B newcomers Sevyn Streeter, Tinashe and Luke James appear in the sixth issue of Kode Magazine.
In James’ photo shoot, he rocks various looks as he sticks to neutral colors such as black and white. In his interview, he speaks on his journey of becoming an artist and working with Frank Gatson.
Kode | You’ve been on the road to music some time now, what has the journey been like becoming the Luke James we see and here before us?
Luke | It’s been great. Plenty of ups and downs but that’s life. Even though show business is not like real life, it is a part of life when you’re in the business. So, I’m enjoying the ride and excited to where it’s taking me.
Kode | The legendary Frank Gatson is one of your longtime collaborators, in what way do you feel you’ve benefited from the relationship you two share?
Luke | Frank Gatson… Where do I start…LOL? Damn, I have benefitted in so many ways. First and foremost, I’ve gained a great friend and father figure. Even when we disagree and sometimes it gets real because we both are very strong–willed individuals. But the level of respect is always there. He’s been a mentor with an outstanding inside view of the business, and that’s priceless to have someone with that kind of knowledge at your disposal. He’s taught me how to be honest and how to perform and leave everything on the stage. He thinks outside the box when it comes to making music visual, and I dig that. And he has taught me to never be afraid, Own that shit – unapologetically.
Tinashe shows off her inner sex siren in her series of photos. The “2 On” singer rocks a pink and black swimsuit as she plays golf. In another photo, she dons a black swimsuit while relaxing in an infinity pool. In her interview with Kode Magazine, she reveals the producers she’s working with on her sophomore album and how she continues to grow as an artist.
Kode | Who’s currently in your music circle for upcoming projects?
Tinashe | Hit boy, boi1da, Max Martin, Nic Nac
Kode | What do you do to continue to grow as an artist?
Tinashe | I try to be surrounded by positive energy and things that inspire me. It’s important to not get burnt out due to all of the hard work that goes into it and take the time to enjoy your experiences.
Sevyn Streeter wasn’t afraid to show off her stunning body in her photo shoot. The singer-songwriter set a thirst trap with her seductive ensemble. In her interview, she gives relationship advice and sheds light on her new project, Shoulda Been There Pt. 1
Kode | You are in the cutest relationship, any advice on how to manage your love life, family and career?
Sevyn | Make time for what’s important! Family & love is ALWAYS first! My motto is Happy Heart, Happy Art.
Kode | Any other future projects you would like the world to know?
Sevyn | …It’s called “Shoulda Been There” pt. 1. I wrote these songs when I wasn’t in the best space, and I didn’t want to carry that energy over into my album. At the same time, these songs came from a honest place. I didn’t want to live denial and act like they didn’t exist. Fortunately, I’m no longer in that space and relationship but someone else may be and these songs may just the therapy they need.
