It’s been a while since we last heard from Gallant but the rising singer returns his new single titled “Gentleman.”
The smooth and steamy record is an ode to ’90s bedroom music. Singing in his signature falsetto register, the Columbia, Maryland, native paints a picture of all the freaky things he wants to do with his lover.
“Tell me, have you ever had a gentleman? / If not, then girl you deserve a gentleman / Eat you out for dinner like a gentleman / Knock before I enter like a gentleman,” he sings on the Stint and Teddy Walton-produced cut.

Speaking on “Gentleman,” Gallant tells NPR music, “For this particular [song] where I’m tapping into more the side of me that is pretty confident, the only way to really get the whole picture and not present something distorted or not true to myself would be to pair it with something that’s equally as vulnerable. It was just the most accurate representation of me as a human being, personally and artistically.”
Gallant has also released an accompanying visual for the record, directed by Sasha Samsonova. He says he wanted the video “to be vulnerable” and “focus on the black male body”—which it does.
“Gentleman” is the first single from Gallant’s sophomore project, which is expected to be released later this year. It will follow his 2016 LP, Ology.
