Grab a slice of “Devil’s Pie” and enjoy the elusive king of Neo-Soul D’Angelo on the silver screen.
The Tribeca Film Festival has announced a documentary titled Devil’s Pie — D’Angelo will premiere at this year’s event in New York City. The title of the documentary was inspired by the lead single of D’Angelo’s critically-acclaimed sophomore album, Voodoo.
Directed and written by Carine Bijlsma, the film will explore D’Angelo on his comeback tour for his third album Black Messiah after suddenly leaving the spotlight in 2000. It will include behind-the-scenes footage of the tour, as well as interviews from D’Angelo himself and industry peers.
The mysterious R&B singer made a brief return to the music scene and released “Unshaken” for the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game soundtrack in October 2018.
The Tribeca Film Festival will run from Wednesday, April 24 through Sunday, May 5. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, March 19.
