Jamila Woods possesses a keen-feline intuition in her Fatimah Asghar-directed video for “EARTHA.”
The black-and-white picture starts off with Woods and her male accomplice en route for another crime. Based on the old-fashioned intertitles, her sidekick difficulties functioning the buttons on their getaway car. He also can’t keep his eyes to himself after being caught making a pass at a sexy bystander (Safia Elhillo). Not thrilled with his behavior, Woods chucks up the deuces and disappears into the night.
After retiring her catwoman look, the silent film spots Woods and the former eyewitness sharing drinks and close affection while laughing with another glamorous lady.
The song and video are in ode to legend Eartha Kitt, who played catwoman on the third and final season of Batman in the late ‘60s. The tribute song is lifted from Woods’ forthcoming album, Legacy! Legacy!, due out on May 10. She previously released an enchanting tune titled “ZORA.”
Following the digital drop of her sophomore LP, Woods will kick off her supporting tour on May 22 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tickets are available on her official website.
