After taking home Grammy wins for R&B, rap, gospel, and pop, Mary J. Blige has stepped into the rock ‘n’ roll arena for her ambitious cover of “Stay with Me” by band Faces.
With blues as the base of a roaring track and stinging guitar chords as the thread, Blige uses expressive groans and piercing vocals to exalt her stirring rendition.
“Stay with Me” appears on the deluxe soundtrack for season one of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, which Blige starred in as Cha Cha, a time-traveling assassin.
While the adaptation of the comic book series has been renewed for a second season, it hasn’t been revealed if Blige will return since her evil character died in episode ten.
Nonetheless, Blige has more endeavors on her 2019 palette. The singer recently announced the Royalty Tour with co-headliner Nas. The summer concert series, which proceeds their 2019 Essence Festival show, kicks off on July 11 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
By then, Blige will have released her first official single from one of three new albums that are expected to arrive this year. She has been seen cooking up sounds with Murda Beatz, DJ Camper, Prince Charlez, and Blush Writes.
